19th Conference of the APASL – Young Investigator Award and Travel Grant Results

The Scientific Committee invites all interested individuals to submit abstracts to the 19th Conference of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) in Hong Kong. Accepted abstracts will be allocated with oral presentation, poster presentation and poster exhibition and will be published in Hepatology International.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee of 19th Conference of the APASL according to subject category.

Rules for abstract submission :

  • Abstracts that have been presented in previous International Gastroenterology/ Hepatology Meetings will NOT be accepted.
  • All abstracts must be submitted via the Conference website only: www.apasl2009hongkong.org

Guidelines for abstract submission :

Language :

  • All abstracts should be submitted in English (including the title, abstract text, authors' names, affiliations, figures and graphs).

Correspondence :

Please provide the followings :

  • Presenting author's contact details; including full mailing address, office hours phone number and email address and fax number.
  • Name(s) of presenting author and co-authors: first name(s) or initials of first name(s), family name (e.g. Jason Wong or J. Wong).
  • Affiliation details of all authors: department; institution/hospital; city; state (if relevant); country.

Structure :

  • The abstract title should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals.
  • Abstract text for original article should include 1) background/aims, 2) methods, 3) results and 4) conclusions. For case report, it should include introduction and case description.
  • Word limit: 250 words including acknowledgement, maximum 150 words is allowed if any figures/tables/graphs are included in the abstract.
  • All figures/tables/graphs to be included in the abstract should be submitted in JPG/BMP/GIF format, maximum width 9cm, and resolution up to 150dpi. Only ONE figure/table/graph is allowed in one file and maximum TWO files are allowed for each abstract.

Please note that these may be resized to fit in the final printed materials.

  • Do not include references in the abstract.
  • Do not include key words in the abstract.
  • Abbreviation should be spelled out, in parenthesis, in the first use in the text.

Format :

  • All abstracts submitted will be automatically edited according to 19th Conference of APASL submission format. It is the responsibility of the authors to review the submission and avoid any typing error on the abstract.
  • Use Italics only when appropriate (e.g., for the name of genus and species).
  • To avoid character corruption, please use only Arial or Symbol font.

 

AWARDS

Young Investigator Awards

18 Young Investigator Awards will be extended to young investigators who submit excellent research.

The award laureate will receive a cash prize of US$500 for young investigators whose abstracts are selected for presentation at the APASL 2009

Eligibility and Application Procedure

The award laureate must be the presenting author and should be below 40 years of age in the congress year. He/she should send proof of age to the Secretariat of 19th Conference of APASL while submitting the abstract for the Young Investigator Award.

Travel Awards

Up to 50 grants will be given in APASL 2009 to participants whose abstracts have been accepted (for either poster or oral presentation). Recipients will receive up to US$750 to assist with the expenses such as travel, hotel, and meal costs with accordance with the reimbursement policy. Grants will be given based on the excellent quality of the accepted abstract and recommendation letter.

Eligibility and Application Procedure

The award laureate must be the presenting author and recommendation letter from department head/supervisor must be submitted to the Secretariat of 19th Conference of APASL while submitting the abstract.

USJMSCP-NIH-APASL Joint Symposium Young Investigator Award Program

The award includes round-trip economy airfare to the 19th Conference of the APASL, hotel accommodation, and registration for the conference. This award is sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIH, USA, and the US Department of State through the US-Japan Medical Science Cooperative Program (USJMSCP).

Eligibility and Application Procedure

An abstract on HBV Antiviral Resistance must be submitted by the applicant under 40 years of age in the congress year. He/she should send proof of age to the Secretariat of 19th Conference of APASL. The abstract should not have been previously published or presented at an international meeting. All abstracts should be submitted online at www.apasl2009hongkong.org

Liver Care Foundation Financial Grants for Indian Young Investigators

Liver Care Foundation offers theaward of five financial grants to facilitate Young Investigators from India to present their papers in the 19th Conference of the APASL. The Grant covers a round-trip excursion class air travel by the most direct route from the candidate's city of residence, or his/her acadmic institution in India to Hong Kong; registration fee; board and lodging for the days of the conference. In case they get support from other sources, or are not required to pay for any of the above, the award money would proportionately be adjusted. The value of each grant will not exceed INR 50,000).

Eligibility and Application Procedure

  1. Abstract accepted for presentation at the 19th Conference of the APASL
  2. Indian national working or studying in India;
  3. Age: 45 years or under (as of 1 Feb 2009)
  4. No financial aid or grant from any other source for attending the 19th Conference of the APASL

Best Presentation Awards (Oral and Poster)

The awards recognize presenters who give excellent presentations during the 19th Conference of the APASL and are based on peer review collected at the Conference. Best Presentations Award will be announced during the closing ceremony with a cash prize of US$500.
